With growing global concerns around COVID-19 (“coronavirus”), the health and safety of our club members is of the utmost importance to us. Our members, coaches, parents, and staff are family and everyone’s safety are our top priority. With regard to the current pandemic, we are closely following the direction of the City of Ottawa Public Health, provincial health officials and the Public Health Agency of Canada, as well as the guidance of Ontario Speed Skating Association and Speed Skating Canada, and will continue to follow their expert advice in order to provide a safe speed skating environment.

At this time, speed skating practices for the next two weeks will go ahead, and if the situation changes, they will be communicated to our members. If you feel you have any symptoms, please refrain from attending practice and let our club know.  If you decide not to attend practice to reduce your risk, we understand that personal decision.

The recent arrival of the virus in Canada, Speed Skating Canada has cancelled the last 5 domestic events in Canada, including Canada East Championships and Canada Cup 4. OSSA has also made the decision to cancel the Provincial Championships in Sudbury. Your race entry fees will be returned or refunded.

Currently, we encourage everyone to go about their business, embrace basic habits that prevent the transmission of germs – wash those hands, don’t share food or drink! - and stay home if you are feeling ill.

We will continue to monitor the situation and seek advice and recommendations in the coming days and weeks to ensure we are providing the safest environment possible. If recommendations change, we will respond quickly and communicate via our website, social media and email.

If you plan on travelling during March Break, please be certain to take any and all precautions advised while you’re away and upon your return home.
